THE Puran Bros Inc. inaugural golf tournament is set for Saturday, August 31. All eyes will be on new LGC member Satish Puran, director of the Top Mix Cement division as he plays in his first-ever tournament.At the newly remodelled headquarters on the West Bank of Demerara, president of the LGC received the sponsorship cheque from executive administrative assistant Sarah Dass and director of the Top Mix Cement division, Satish Puran.LGC president Aleem Hussain expressed his appreciation to the company for its support and said he was encouraged by the level of development and expansion by the company over the past few years and looked forward to a long-term relationship.Puran Bros has been a supporter of golf and sports for many years in Guyana and as its personal growth as a company continues, so does its involvement in local activities.Known for its waste removal services, the company has expanded operations to include tyre-recycling, paper-shredding, party supplies, equipment rental, tree-trimming, cement supply, road-sweeping, and septic tank removal, among many others.In operation since 1987 and with more than 300 employees in the company, odds are that almost every household in the city uses one of the services provided by Puran Bros on a regular basis.This week’s tournament will feature players of every category as trophies will be awarded to the top two players in three categories: 0-10; 11-19 and 20-36 along with prizes for Longest Drive and Nearest to the Pin.Puran described his excitement as a new golfer, stating “the experience of making a great shot is incomparable to almost any other feeling in the world, and the precision and dedication it takes to succeed at golf can be transferred to the business environment”.Members of the public and business partners and employees of Puran Bros are all invited to come and share in the fun and excitement of the game and the ambience of the Lusignan Golf Course.
B&H team with the coach Mirza Hrustemović at the finals won against Russia 3-0 (25:22, 25:20, 30:28), and continued their series of invincibility. B&H successful team arrived to the title of European Champions without a single set lost. They won against Russia, Serbia, Croatia, Netherlands and Ukraine.The volleyball team returned last night in Sarajevo from Elblag/Poland. Denbigh High and Excelsior High were crowned urban and rural senior champions, respectively, at yesterday’s ISSA schoolgirls netball finals at the G.C. Foster College.Denbigh seniors clipped Manchester High 37-35, while Excelsior stopped, Gaynstead High 44-37.In the junior finals, Gaynstead defeated former champions Queen’s 26-23 for the urban title, while Holmwood captured their first junior final in six years after a 23-18 victory over Denbigh.Goal shooter Moya Manning, with 17 goals from 19 attempts, was the leading scorer for Denbigh in the rural senior final. She got good support from Zandria Cohen with 16 from 16, and Dane Thomas 10 from 16. Manchester High’s goal shooter, Janalee Johnson, scored 27 from 33 attempts and goal attack Shaunakaye Morgan, eight from nine.In the urban senior final, Excelsior were inspired by goal shooter Kimberly Hudson with 22 goal, from 24 attempts and goal attack Quannie Walker, 20 from 28. Goal shooter Amanda Pickney top-scored for Gaynstead with 21 from 25, and goal attack Astia Brooks got 16 from 19.The all, island finals will be played next Wednesday, December 7, at the Leila Robinson Courts.
